Fifty-eight people rounded up from Nabua two days ago over the ongoing altercation between youths in the area have been charged with five counts each including criminal intimidation and unlawful procession.
Forty-five of them appeared before Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili in Suva today and have been remanded in police custody to await their next court appearance while 13 appeared before a juvenile court where they were granted bail.
The adults are due before the chief magistrate again on Monday where they will present their account. On the day, Magistrate Ratuvili will also hear from the police on their assessment of the situation, including overall safety if the 45 were to be released on bail.
The youths are charged with Unlawful Procession contrary to Section 10(1) of the Public Order Act Cap 20, Malicious Acts contrary to Section 15(b) of the Public Order Act Cap 20, Disobedience of Lawful Order contrary to Section 202 of the Crimes Act 2009, Throwing Stones contrary to Section 15 of the Minor Offences Act Cap 18 and Criminal Intimidation contrary to section 375 (1) (a) (IV) of the Crimes Act 2009.
