Yellow Cassava in demand in Australia

A new variety of yellow cassava is now in huge demand in Australia and the local market, a recent survey found.

The survey finding has prompted the Ministry of Agriculture to launch a drive to encourage production of the crop.

A new yellow cassava variety, named the Beqa Variety Yellow Cassava was launched this week Nataleira Village Community Hall in Dawasamu, Tailevu.

While launching the cassava variety, Minister of Agriculture Dr. Mahendra Reddy said demand in Australia could be worth 15 tonnes of yellow cassava per week.

Meanwhile, a total of 4,000 yellow cassava has been supplied by the Ministry of Agriculture to the farmers in Lomaivuna and 3,000 to the Navunisea and Delai farmers.
