Fiji Water Flying Fijians head coach Mick Byrne is focused on laying the foundation and setting the platform for Fiji’s build up towards the next two rugby world cups in 2027 in Australia and in Los Angeles in 2031.
Speaking at a press conference Byrne said Fiji was in a good space in terms of player base and if given the right tools of preparation would be a force to reckon with at the two major tournaments.
“You have the boys who are playing in Europe, you have the Fijian Drua squad, we have the Fiji U20’s who are dynamic young men that will definitely be putting up their hands come the time. There is an abundance of talent in this country.”
Byrne returned from meeting with Flying Fijians who are playing club rugby in the Northern Hemisphere including Semi Radradra, Kalaveti Ravouvou and others.
“It was good to be able to meet most of the players, see how they’re doing, watch them in their environment and to also have a good talk with them about the Flying Fijians and the upcoming commitments we have ahead of us.”
Byrne confirmed that the core of the team to prepare for RWC 2027 should begin preparations in early 2026.
