Water Supply Disruption in Suva: Restoration Efforts Underway

February 20, 2025

The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) is working to restore water supply after heavy overnight rainfall disrupted production at the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant.

While supply has been largely restored to several areas, elevated regions, including schools and hospitals, are still facing challenges. In a statement, providing an update on the restoration efforts at the treatment plant, WAF stated that its teams continued to engage with critical institutions, such as schools and hospitals, to coordinate support.

WAF has deployed 50 water carting trucks to assist, and production at the plant is gradually recovering.

Water supply has been successfully restored to several neighbourhoods, including:
Toorak Reservoir Feed: Stewart Street, Ocean View, Studio 6, and more.
Shipping Reservoir Feed: Quality Printing, Saint Giles, Walubay, and others.
Flagstaff Reservoir Feed: Ratu Sukuna Road, McGregor Road, Domain Road, and more.

However, certain elevated areas, including schools, hospitals, and other essential services, continue to experience disruptions due to ongoing turbidity challenges.

Ongoing Affected Areas
Several locations are still impacted, including:
Tacirua Reservoir Feed: Princes Road, PJ Twomey Hospital, Tamavua Village, and others.
Dokanisuva Reservoir Feed: Savutalele Junction, Jeremiah College, and more.
Coloisuva Reservoir Feed: Marshall Road, Forestry Quarters, Rain Tree Lodge, and more.
Tamavua Reservoir Feed: Elevated Delainavesi area, Upper Lami, Kalekana, and others.

In the meantime, the focus is on stabilising operations at the Tamavua WTP and addressing turbidity levels to restore full production. With improving weather conditions and decreasing turbidity, the plant is expected to return to normal operations soon.
