Vibrant colours at 2020 Fashion Week Finale

November 28, 2020

Rosie Semisi wowed the crowd with her collection as she opened the 2020 Fiji Fashion Week Resort Luxe Wear show in Nadi this evening.

Her bright coloured designs lit up the 100-metre beachfront runway, at the Hilton Fiji Beach Resort and Spa on Denarau Island.

Vibrant colours were the order of the show with an emphasis on the blue-green shade of the ocean and fittingly set on the beachfront which aligns with the Fiji Fashion Week’s commitment and celebration of the UN Decade of the Oceans as has been the case for all their 2020 events, working with designers on creating sustainable fashion attires.

“A healthy, clean, and productive ocean is our life force in the Pacific,” Whippy-Knight said, “It connects us to rest of the world – to share our ideas and creativity; to make new acquaintances and learn new ways; it unites us as a global community, much the same way that fashion does.

“This evening, we celebrate Fiji’s most precious creative talent alongside the planet’s most precious resource – the Ocean.”

Also showing off their collections on the night were Hupfield Hoerder, Sonam Sapra, Robert Kennedy, Samson Lee, Rosie Emberson, KuiViti, and emerging designer Hosanna Kabakoro with her Duatani line.

Opening the event, Fiji’s Minister for Education Rosy Akbar congratulated FFW Managing Director Ellen Whippy-Knight for ensuring that the 13th edition of the show went ahead despite the COVID-19 pandemic, allowing local fashion designers a platform “to showcase their culture, innovation and creativity” and “inspiring the fashion industry in Fiji.”

“As a nation, we’re all very proud of the success that Fiji Fashion Week has
achieved in these last thirteen (13) years, including the expansion of
the mandate to incorporate educational opportunities for students, to pursue formal qualifications in fashion, at local and international tertiary institutions.

“I’m particularly impressed by your commitment to talent discovery in the
community, and even more impressed, by the resilient nature of the young
lady serving time at the Fiji Corrections Facility.
