Two men have been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of a visiting Fijian national from Canada, Narend Chand, in February 2023.
Edward Nand and Salimoni Lagicere, who were convicted last month, appeared before Justice Siainiu Bull at the Suva High Court today for sentencing.
Delivering the ruling, Justice Bull imposed the mandatory life sentence on both men, setting a minimum term of 16 years for Lagicere and 18 years for Nand before a pardon could be considered.
The judge said the decision took into account sentencing guidelines, aggravating and mitigating factors, and time already spent in remand.
