Tourism continues to be the leading source of economic livelihood of Fiji.
The sentiment was shared by Fiji’s Tourism Minister Viliame Gavoka while opening the Fiji Tourism Convention currently underway on Denarau Island in Nadi.
Mr Gavoka, a former hotelier, said that tourism not only brings in the much needed revenue for Fiji but also enhances the diverse cultures that make up Fiji.
“Tourism is more than just an economic driver; it is a bridge that connects diverse cultures, fosters mutual understanding, and promotes global peace. In Fiji, tourism is a cornerstone of our economy, providing livelihoods for thousands and contributing significantly to our national development.”
“But beyond the economic benefits, tourism plays a crucial role in bringing people together, breaking down barriers, and building lasting relationships”
Gavoka added that tourism has alot to contribute to a peaceful world.
“The theme “Tourism and Peace” underscores the potential of tourism to be a powerful force for good. When people travel, they experience new cultures, traditions, and perspectives. This exposure fosters empathy, reduces prejudices, and encourages a sense of global citizenship. Tourism has the unique ability to transform strangers into friends, and in doing so, it lays the foundation for a more peaceful world.”
