“Thank you for saving my baby” Savusavu mum grateful for American heart surgeons

Savaira Naitila couldn’t hold back her tears as she recounted the harrowing journey from Savusavu to Suva, that she and her 9 month old son took in the fight to save his heart.

Her son, Eroni Rokotabala, was born with a hole in his heart and yesterday at a ceremony at the Sri Satya Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Hospital in Suva, mother and son were discharged with a mended heart and a spring in their step.

“My baby is healed.” Savaira cried. “I am so blessed and so relieved that he has had surgery.”

“When he was around 2 months old he began getting sick and that began our journey in and out of hospital in Savusavu, then to Labasa, then to CWM before we eventually got here.”

Savaira said waiting for her son while he was in surgery was the hardest wait she’s ever had to do.

“He left me at 7am and came out of  surgery at 3pm. During that entire time all I could do was pray because he is only 9 months old, so little.” she said.

“I am so grateful to Mr Tappoo and the surgeons from Stanford University in the USA who came to do the surgeries.”

“Thank you so much for saving my baby.”
