NFP parliamentarian and Assistant Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection Sashi Kiran has taken over the portfolio as Minster after Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka dismissed Hon Lynda Tabuya from the position today.
Rabuka made this announcement today outlining key factors that led to the decision, amongst these that the expected conduct of a Minister had not been upheld.
‘In consideration of:
(i) the Oath she has taken as a Minister; and
(ii) standards expected of any Minister,
I have decided to exercise the power conferred upon me by Section 92(3)(b) of the Constitution, to dismiss her as a Minister, with immediate effect.”
“She will remain as a Member of Parliament.
This is not a decision I have taken lightly, but one that is necessary in the best interest of the people that we serve.”
“I have also taken the decision that Hon. Sashi Kiran be appointed as the Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, effective from the date of her swearing – in as a substantive Minister, by His Excellency, the President.”
Earlier this week, a leaked private adult-rated video of Tabuya went viral on social media prompting calls for her removal as a Cabinet Minister.
