Stellar Season earns Tavatavanawai Top Highlander Award: Contract Extension and Scoops 5 Honors at Highlanders Gala

To cap off a brilliant season with the Highlanders, former Queen Victoria School student Timoci Tavatavanawai was awarded the coveted Highlander Man Award at the Super Rugby Club’s annual awards night on Monday.

This prestigious award is presented to the player that best demostrates the Highlanders values on and off the field. Tavatavanawai scooped five awards in total on Monday.

He took out the the awards for: Back of the Year, Fan Player of the Year, Players’ player of the Year, Pulse Energy Most Valuable Player, Highlander Man Award.

Highlanders Head Coach Jamie Joseph described the Tailevu man as possessing qualities that ‘lifts the entire squad’.

Timoci brings a unique blend of power and agility that lifts entire squad. Beyond his athletic ability, he’s a leader who sets high standards and drives our culture forward. We’re thrilled to have him locked in for the next two seasons.”

The inside centre described Dunedin as his second home and was excited about the next season of Super Rugby at the Club.

“It’s a privilege to be part of this club and community. The support from the fans and the environment we’ve built here make Dunedin feel like home. I’m excited about the direction we’re heading and honoured to continue representing the Highlanders.”

Tavatavanawai began his primary school at Vugalei District School in Naimasimasi, Tailevu, moved to Namara District School before going to Queen Victoria School for his secondary school education.

The number 12 was in the same QVS under-18 side that won the Deans Trophy in 2016 alongside Ratu Meli Derenalagi, Tevita Ikanivere and Simione Kuruvoli, who are now part of the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua.
