Decisions from today’s Constitutional Offices Commission meeting, overshadowed by the walkout of Leader of Opposition Voreqe Bainimarama, will be taken through the proper channels, Fiji’s Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says.
Bainimarama declined to comment when leaving with opposition nominee Tupou Draunidalo less than an hour into the meeting that went on for more than five hours at the Suvavou House in Suva.
Rabuka confirmed that the duo left the meeting before it concluded, but could not pinpoint the reason for their early departure adding that they were merely exercising their right.
“They did not say they were walking out, they did not want to participate further in the discussion
He also said that the walkout by Bainimarama and Draunidalo had no bearing on the decisions made by the 6-member commission that include Rabuka, Attorney General Siromi Turaga, two Government nominees in Jon Apted and Cema Bolabola.
“The resolutions will be taken through the proper channels for further action, and we will be able to put out a release,” Rabuka said.
The meeting was the COC’s fourth since their first meeting on New Year’s Day.
