Rahman gets 20 years for cocaine possession

October 12, 2021

Canadian international Joshua Aziz Rahman has been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment with a non parole period of 14 years for being in possession of 39.5 kilograms in cocaine.

Rahman joined virtually as Justice Daniel Goundar handed down the jail term.

The sentence comes almost three years after Rahman was arrested following the discovery of cocaine at a home in Caubati.

Justice Goundar began the sentencing at 23 years. He deducted three years to account for the time the 26-year-old had spent in remand and for delay in proceedings.

Handing down the sentence Justice Goundar said it will send a clear message and deter other drug offenders as well as to protect the community.

He told Rahman that he had an option to live a decent life but chose otherwise, therefore must bear the consequences.
