Opposition forms new party; Seruiratu says Coalition Government has failed to deliver

The G16+1 members of the Opposition are forming a new political party to to contest the General Elections next year.

Making the announcement today, Opposition leader Inia Seruiratu said the new party has been formed to steer Fiji back to what it once was, and to recover what he has termed ‘losses’ under the Coalition government.

“The Fiji First party has been de-registered, and with the G-9 joining the Coalition government we have decided to form a new political party. We are determined to regroup and are committed to build a better Fiji.”

” Members of this Coalition Government promised many things, criticized Fiji First policies calling them freebies and when they came into power they continued using those policies.”

“They promised a leaner Government but what we have now is a bloated Government, the largest ever. Over the past two years in Opposition we witnessed the performance of Government and witnessed its many shortcomings.”

Seruiratu said the new party will work to espouse the values that aim to give every ordinary citizen an equal footing.

“We will build on the values that we aspired to as Fiji Party. We have learned from what we achieved as Fiji First and we will build on that. We have also learnt from our shortcomings and we will rectify that.”

At the launch with Seruiratu were party supporters including Praveen Bala.
