Officers linked to death of alleged jumper await ODPP: Fiji Police

Fiji’s Office of the Director Public Prosecution (ODPP) will dictate the fate of police officers accused of causing the death of a man whom they had claimed died from fatal injuries he sustained after jumping from a two-storey building, claims that were not consistent with post-mortem reports.

Acting Police Commissioner ACP Rusiate Tudravu ordered for an internal investigation, into the incident that happened in Nadi in October, the outcome of which was submitted to the ODPP on Monday this week for sanctioning.

Eight officers were questioned for their alleged involvement in the death of the man identified as Mesake Sinu. Disciplinary action ACP Tudravu said will be decided once the DPP makes his decision based on the findings of the investigation.

“We will comment further after the file is returned from the DPPs Office,” police said.
