Nancy Tikoisuva has been appointed Acting Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) as Christopher Pryde takes extended leave amid fresh allegations of abuse of office—allegations that were filed by Tikoisuva herself.
The appointment, effective from 10 February 2025, was made by President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu on the recommendation of the Judicial Services Commission (JSC), following consultation with Attorney General Graham Leung.
The move follows Pryde’s decision to take an additional three weeks of leave from February 3.
The JSC has stated it will reconvene once his response is received to deliberate further in accordance with the Constitution.
Tikoisuva, a senior prosecutor, previously served as Acting DPP from 11 July 2024 to 16 January 2025. Her term ended when Pryde was reinstated last month after being cleared by a tribunal of earlier charges.
Pryde, in a letter to the JSC dated January 31, has strongly denied the allegations, calling them “misconceived, baseless, and trivial.” In the letter, Pryde also expressed concern that returning to Fiji could result in another suspension, despite his recent reinstatement.
