Marist 7s cancelled amid COVID19 concerns

Following daily cancellations of all major events worldwide and in Fiji, the 44th Fiji Bitter Marist 7s 2020 was this morning postponed indefinitely.

The three day tournament, the oldest and one of the largest Rugby 7s tournament in the country was scheduled to begin today and end on Saturday

Event organizers, the Marist Rugby Club posted notice of the cancellation this morning citing, “the utmost respect for all teams and concern for the health and safety of all citizens of our beloved nation.”

While announcing the cancellation, tournament organisers inadvertently announced a confirmed case of the COVID19 in Fiji. At 12.17pm, the Fijian government had yet to make an official statement to confirm a local case of the pandemic.

A new date for the tournament will be set in consultation with the government.
