Man accused of raping great-granddaughter among 7 charged in September

A 77-year-old man accused of the rape of his great granddaughter was among seven people charged with rape and sexual offences filed in Fiji’s high courts last month.

The victim, aged 8 was one of four female victims aged under 18, and among three who are related to their attackers.

There was also a 14-year-old at the hands of her 42-year-old uncle, and a 34-year-old woman, also by an uncle, aged 58.

A teenager was also among those charged. According to the Office of the Director Public Prosecution, there were two separate incidents where the 19-year-old man and a 39-year-old man were charged with the rape of a 19-year-old woman and a 29-year-old woman whilst they were intoxicated.

There was one incident where a 33-year-old man was accused of the rape and defilement of a 15-year-old girl. Another 33-year-old was charged with the rape of a 16-year-old girl.
