Labasa Lawyer Joins Fiji Sugar Corporation Board

March 13, 2025

Fiji Sugar Corporation has appointed Labasa lawyer Adrian Sunil Parshu Ram as a director, effective 1 April 2025.

A seasoned lawyer and managing partner at Gibson & Company in Labasa, Ram replaces outgoing board member Athil Narayan, who served for seven years and made”outstanding contributions to the industry and his leadership in the advocacy of climate sustainability, SAF ( Sustainable Aviation Fuel ), and ethanol.”

Welcoming Ram to the Board, FSC Chairman Nitya Reddy highlighted his legal and financial expertise, which spans insurance, commercial and company law, taxation, and employment regulations.

“He combines his legal knowledge with a strong background in litigation, mediation, dispute resolution, negotiations, contract drafting, and business management – all of which we are desperately in need of,” Reddy said.

The appointment comes as the FSC navigates what Reddy described as “the greatest financial and operational challenges in its 150-year history.”

The industry is contending with declining cane production, inefficient milling operations, deteriorating infrastructure, rising costs, skill shortages, and ongoing contractual litigations.

“We need directors who can walk the talk and deliver,” Reddy said. “He will add significant value in planning, evaluating, and implementing legal strategies to manage these challenges.”
