Journalists receive training on reporting for electoral reform

June 12, 2025

Journalists from various media houses attended a workshop today aimed at helping them understand the various types of electoral systems.

Organised and facilitated by Dialogue Fiji, journalists were briefed and given examples of the changing voting trends around the world by Alan Wall, an electoral and democracy development consultant.

“It’s important that journalists are aware of the different types of electoral reforms, of voting systems so that there is better understanding when it comes to reporting during elections.” Nilesh Lal, Executive Director of Dialogue Fiji said in welcoming the delegates to the one-day workshop.

Participants were encouraged to understand the systems, learn the methods used to calculate votes and the allocation of seats in a parliament.

Journalists from Fiji Broadcasting Corporation, Fiji Television Limited, Communications Fiji Limited, Mai TV, Fiji Times and Fiji Sun were in attendance. They were also joined by journalism students from University of the South Pacific and Fiji National University, and other stakeholders.
