The Fiji Meteorological Service has issued a heavy rain warning for the Fiji group from today till Sunday.
A warning issued this morning states that a trough of low pressure continues to lie over the Fiji islands thus bringing the heavy rain throughout the day.
“An active trough of low pressure lies over the Fiji group, occasional rain, heavy at times and few thunderstorms. Isolated heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low lying and flood prone areas.”
Heavy rainfall recorded in the past 24 hours at Udu point was at 84mm, Nadarivatu 50mm, Lomaivuna 86.5mm, Penang 48mm, Monasavu 56.5mm and Nasinu 72.5mm.
“Flash flooding of some low lying informal settlements/communities, businesses and iris crossing leading to disruption to traffic flow.”
“Surface flooding expected on streets particularly in urban areas with poor drainage system. Wet roads and reduced visibility.”
