Former Macuata Provincial Office Employee Sentenced to Eight Months for Corruption

A former employee of the Macuata Provincial Office has been jailed for eight months for corruption-related offences.

Nanise Tabani Lacanivalu, who worked as an Executive Officer at the office in Labasa, was convicted on charges of financial advantage and falsification of documents.

In sentencing Lacanivalu this week, Resident Magistrate Jeremaia Savou suspended the remaining 16 months for two years.

Lacanivalu was found guilty of manipulating receipts for transactions between May and September 2019. She duplicated receipts, and pocketed $275 from the Office of the Provincial Administrator Macuata.

Lacanivalu has 28 days to appeal the court’s decision.
