Seven new serious sexual offences cases were filed in the high courts of Fiji last month, five of which involved victims and accused persons who were related to each other including a 36-year-old father charged with the rape of his 18-year-old daughter.
The case was discontinued due to insufficient evidence, but four others continue in court, including one involving an 18-year-old man accused of raping and sexually assaulting his 13-year-old nephew, a 23-year-old man charged with the rape and the sexual assault of his 32-year-old cousin’s sister, and a 25-year-old man charged with raping a female cousin 10 years his junior.
A 54-year-old man was charged with the rape of his 47-year-old wife, however, this matter was discontinued after the victim could not be located or contacted.
Three cases were withdrawn after discontinuances (Nolle Prosequi) were filed due to insufficient evidence and the victim could not be located or contacted.
