FijiFirst Deregistered by Registrar of Political Parties, Reliable Sources Confirm

July 1, 2024

FijiFirst, the ruling political party led by former Fiji Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, has been officially deregistered by the Registrar of Political Parties, Ana Mataiciwa.

Reliable sources have verified the deregistration, which stems from the party’s failure to amend its constitution as directed by the Registrar.

A party official, who requested anonymity, confirmed receiving formal notification from Mataiciwa’s office regarding the deregistration.

Mataiciwa’s office confirmed the news in a press statement sent this hour.

The decision follows a notice issued to FijiFirst late last month, mandating the incorporation of guidelines on internal dispute resolution into its constitution.

The party was given a deadline of 4pm last Friday to comply, but no amendments were made, resulting in the current outcome.

Despite the deregistration, FijiFirst MPs will remain in parliament as independents and will not lose their seats.

In a recent interview, FijiFirst MP Inia Seruiratu affirmed his commitment to serving as a Parliamentarian in the best interest of the people.
