The Vodafone Fijiana XV stamped their mark in the opening match of the 2025 Oceania Women’s Rugby Championship, thrashing Tonga 59 – 5 at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.
The homeside dominated play from the get-go and snuffed out numerous attempts by Tonga to cross the line for tries.
For the Fijiana XV, Josifini Neihamu from the Fijian Drua crossed the line three times to score while Fiji’s other tries came from Mereoni Nakesa, Litiana Vueti, Loraini Senivatu, Setaita Railumu, Ema Adivitaloga, Manuqalo Komaitai and Salanieta Nabuli.
Litiana Vueti managed to slot in 2 conversions.
Head coach Ioan Cunningham said he was pleased with the team’s progress from when they last played against the Australian Wallaroos earlier.
“The team was impressive today, playing the game, we have been working on leading up to this. Obviously, there are things to be worked out, areas to improve on but in general we are happy with today’s performance.”
The next game will be between Tonga and Samoa on June 10th at 4pm at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.
Fiji plays their next and final game against Samoa on June 14th at 6pm, also at Lawaqa Park.
