Fijiana coach to gauge combo at Oceania 7s

Fijiana 7s coach Saiasi Fuli says the team is in high spirits after their first blowout today after spending three days quarantined in their hotel rooms.

The team will complete the remainder of their 14-day quarantine inside a bubble on the Sunshine Coast, allowing them to train outside and use gym facilities therein.

Fuli said that the team had been training in a bubble in Fiji for eight weeks prior to their departure, and have been looking forward to the Oceania Sevens.

“It (the tournament) will help the management, especially the coaches and myself to gauge the individual players performances, and unions, and how we can balance and select the right combination going towards the Tokyo Olympics,” Fuli said.

He said they will try to utilize all of their 19-member squad across the 3-day competition to determine possible combinations for the different gameplans they have.

Despite all the barriers caused by COVID-19 restrictions in the lead up to the Tokyo Olympics, Fuli says the team and management are focused and motivated to achieve their main goal.

The Oceania 7s is scheduled for 25-27 June at the Queensland Country Bank Stadium in Townsville.
