Nine Fijians, who are in Australia for work under the pacific labour scheme, helped Singleton Bulls to a historic win in a 7s tournament in New South Wales over the weekend.
One of the nine, Mosese Tuiwanikai, stood in as the side’s assistant coach that saw them pull off a 28-14 win over Hamilton in the final of the Mick ‘Whale’ Curry Sevens tournament in Charleston.
The tournament featured teams from across the Hunter and Sydney.
Australia’s High Commissioner to Fiji, John Feakes said, “ It’s great to see the Fijian boys making an impact in the community and playing the game they love as well as learning new skills and earning an income through the PLS.”
Over the last three months, 350 Fijian workers have departed to take up jobs in Australia under the scheme.
More Fijian workers are expected to leave for Australia in the coming weeks.
This highlights the special relationship between Fiji and Australia, the Australian High Commission said.
