Fijian Media Celebrates Press Freedom Day, Urges Responsibility Alongside Newfound Freedom

The Fijian Media Association (FMA) celebrated Press Freedom Day today with a lunch in Suva, where over 100 media professionals gathered to reflect on the significance of media freedom and the responsibilities that come with it.

The event provided an opportunity to honor achievements in the past year, with the repeal of the media law being chief among them.

This has opened up new opportunities for local journalists, who must now recognise the responsibilities that come with this newfound freedom.

During the celebrations, FMA executives challenged journalists to be bolder and reminded them of their duty to society.

The theme for this year’s World Press Media Freedom Day, which is celebrated globally on May 3, is “Shaping a Future of Rights: Freedom of expression as a driver for all other human rights.”
