Fijian Drua unveil culture round playing stripes

The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua today unveiled a special jersey to commemorate the culture round of the 2023 Shop N Save Super Pacific season, set to kick off with the Blues game next Saturday in Lautoka.

The jersey showcases a series of unique Fijian masi motifs, crafted by renowned local artist Anare Somumu.

Drua’s Head of Athletic Performance and cultural lead Nacanieli Cawanibuka explained that the motifs were carefully chosen to reflect the club’s core values – “relentlessness (tabu soro), integrity (dina), and discipline (bula vakaivakarau/talairawarawa/kaukauwa) ” principles that guide the club both on and off the field.

Working closely with Somumu, the club ensured that the designs accurately captured the essence of the Fijian Drua.

The artist shared that the motifs were created with deep personal meaning.

“These designs have come from my heart and soul because these are the values I already stand for,” Somumu said.

The masi motifs designed by Somumu feature elements such as the traditional Fijian sail (laca) surrounding a guiding star, symbolising the journey of the Fijian Drua as a club.

The culture jerseys are now available for sale from Jack’s of Fiji and other leading retailers, as well as online at shop.drua.rugby.
