Fiji Welfare Recipients Receive Training to Reduce Dependence on State Support

May 14, 2025

Twenty-three welfare recipients in Fiji’s Central Division have received small business training as part of a government initiative to reduce dependency on state support

The four-day Welfare Graduation Program (WGP) is a key initiative of Fiji’s Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection. It aims to help recipients start small businesses and reduce their reliance on government aid. The program also helps connect them to more services and opportunities within and outside government.

Director of the Poverty Monitoring Unit Arieta Tagivetaua encouraged the participants from Vunidawa, Korovou and Nasinu to implement the learnings.

Eseta Nadakuitavuki, the Permanent Secretary for Women, Children, and Social Protection, opened the training led by Aslam Khan from the Ministry of Trade and Communications.
