A weak trough of low pressure remains slow-moving over Fiji, bringing cloud cover, showers, and isolated thunderstorms to parts of the country over the next few days.
As per the latest weather update issued at around 7a, the National Weather Forecasting Centre reports that occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms will affect the eastern half of Viti Levu, including areas from Serua and Namosi through Navua to Suva, extending to Nausori, Tailevu North, and the interior of Tailevu, Naitasiri, and Ra. These conditions will also impact the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu, and nearby smaller islands. Showers could increase to rain later in the day.
Cloudy periods with some showers are expected over Cakaudrove and southern Bua, with afternoon thunderstorms bringing possible heavy falls.
Elsewhere, including Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, and the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, generally fine conditions are forecast apart from afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms.
Rain and thunderstorms are expected to persist over Lau, Lomaiviti, eastern Viti Levu, Kadavu, and parts of Vanua Levu. Isolated heavy falls may lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas.
Moderate easterly winds will continue, with moderate seas expected across Fiji.
In Rotuma, an easterly wind flow prevails, with a trough of low pressure expected to develop. Cloudy periods with showers and isolated thunderstorms are forecast, along with moderate to rough seas.
Residents in flood-prone areas are advised to remain alert, especially in regions forecasted to receive heavy rainfall. Mariners should take precautions as moderate seas persist.
