Fiji School Boys U18 win test series; Aim to keep young ruggers in Fiji

October 2, 2024

The Fiji School Boys rugby union U18 side won against the Australian U18 team in the second test match yesterday at Lawaqa Park in Nadroga, clinching the two-test series beating the visitors 34 – 25.

Head Coach Penioni Ranitu said he was proud of the team’s performance however Fiji could have scored more points had they not given away opportunities.

“The boys played really well together and I’m very happy and proud that they won that game. We could have scored points but we gave away those penalties and opportunities but never the less I am really happy for them.”

Ranitu said the next step for the players was to get them into a program to help retain them in Fiji.

“We are just hoping that we will get these boys into a program so that they won’t be lured away by overseas contracts but if they get a contract that will benefit them than that will be good, otherwise then get them into a program and keep them for Warriors and U20 in the years to come.”

The players now return to their various schools and go straight into the preparations for external examinations, the Fiji Seventh Form Examination and the Fiji School Leaving Certificate which begin in 3 weeks time.
