Fiji’s health authorities are urging the public to stay alert as dengue fever cases climb, with 8,708 infections and four deaths recorded since the start of the year.
Two people died in the Western Division and two in the Northern Division, the Ministry of Health confirmed.
The West accounted for over half of all cases, followed by 2,092 in the Central Division, 2,048 in the North and 211 in the East.
Hospital admissions were also highest in the West with 986 people needing care. The Northern Division had 422 admissions, the Central 347 and the Eastern Division 13.
The ministry is calling on the public to follow official health advice, eliminate mosquito breeding grounds, and seek medical help if symptoms such as fever, rash, or joint pain appear.
