June 25, 2024

Fijian authorities are investigating two recent deaths: a 38-year-old man’s body found in the Rewa River and a suspected murder of a 59-year-old woman in Navua.

Last week, a body found floating in the Rewa River has been identified as a 38-year-old resident of Nabua. The man’s brother came forward to confirm his identity. While the circumstances surrounding the death remain unclear, Fiji Police have indicated that they will wait for the results of a post-mortem examination before determining the cause of death.

In a separate and more recent incident, an alleged murder is under investigation in Naitata, Navua. Fiji Police’s Southern Division Crime team, with support from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), is leading the investigation following the death of a 59-year-old woman.

Assistant Commissioner of Police – Crime (ACP) Mesake Waqa stated that preliminary findings suggest the case is a suspected murder due to the multiple wounds found on the victim.

The woman’s husband reported the matter to authorities upon returning from Suva to find his wife’s body in an area used for farming.

ACP Waqa has directed a thorough investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the woman’s death.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in their investigations.
