Fiji NDRMO alerts identified areas for impending weather; Severe thunderstorms expected

Severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall is forecasted for certain areas in Fiji and the National Disaster Risk Management Office has put out an advisory for people in affected areas to take necessary measures to ensure family members are safe.

Areas identified by the NDRMO are Southern parts of Viti Levu, Sigatoka, Coral Coast, Lami and Suva, the interior of Namosi and Serua, interior of Nadroga and Navosa. In the Northern division, areas expected to be affected are Bua and Macuata.

“The public is urged to stay alert as localised flooding may occur in flood prone areas, minor roads, and low-lying crossings. This could lead to traffic disruptions and reduced visibility for motorists and mariners.”

“The NDRMO advises motorists and the commuters to exercise caution, prioritise safety and avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas.”
