Fiji Make FIFA World Cup 26th Oceania Semi-Finals Cut

November 18, 2024

Fiji and New Caledonia secured spots in the FIFA World Cup 26™ Oceania Qualifiers semi-finals following a 1-1 draw in Port Moresby over the weekend, eliminating Papua New Guinea from contention.

Roy Krishna gave Fiji the lead in first-half stoppage time with a penalty after being fouled in the box before New Caledonia responded in the second half. It was Jean-Jacques Katrawa who equalised in the 58th minute following a cut-back from Abezeier Jeno.

Both teams struggled in tough conditions, and despite a late surge from New Caledonia, the match ended level.

Papua New Guinea, who still have one match left against Solomon Islands, are now unable to advance.

Fiji 1 (Roy Krishna 45+3′)
New Caledonia 1 (Jean-Jacques Katrawa 58′)
HT: 1-0
