The Fiji Fringe Festival is set to return for its third year, with 80% of ticket sales going directly to performers.
For the first time, the festival will be held in Suva’s City Centre, running from March 29 to April 5, 2025, featuring over 50 performances, workshops, and interactive events.
Inspired by global fringe festivals such as Edinburgh and Adelaide, the Fiji Fringe Festival aims to provide a creative platform for both emerging and established artists.
“Fiji Fringe is about creating a platform where artists thrive and grow. The festival continues to provide invaluable opportunities for emerging and established artists. The struggle for the arts has always been real and as a former artist myself, I understand the importance of creating this space. A key aspect of the festival’s commitment to artists is its financial support system. The festival covers essential costs such as venue hire, basic lighting and sound, which significantly reduces the financial burden on performers,” Sharleen Ali, Director of the Festival said. “This initiative not only sustains the festival but also empowers local artists to reinvest in their craft, whether through purchasing sound/light equipment or funding future productions.”
The Suva City Council, a key partner, will contribute to the festival’s atmosphere by organising stalls, children’s rides, and local vendor booths. Acting CEO Tevita Boseiwaqa said the event would not only promote the arts but also boost local businesses and tourism.
“By bringing the festival into the heart of the City Centre, we are not only fostering a deeper appreciation for the arts, but also supporting local businesses and boosting tourism. This initiative highlights the importance of investing in the creative industries, providing sustainable platforms for artistic expression and we are fully committed to supporting the festival as it continues to grow and reach new heights across Fiji.”
The organisers hope to expand the festival beyond Suva and Nadi.
