The Fiji Rakavi Football Union and Fiji Football Association in a monumental move today came together to begin negotiations on how to work and help one another grow their sport.
At a meeting in Suva today, FRFU Board Chairman John Sanday said the meeting was a historic one and his Board was looking forward to learning from their counterparts in soccer.
“This has never happened before and we are extremely pleased with this new relationship moving forward because there is so much that we can learn from Fiji Football.”
“You just have to take a look at what they have achieved, they have shown everyone what it means to work hard to grow the sport that they love.”
Fiji FA President Rajesh Patel said they were ready to lend a hand to their brothers in rugby whether it be help with financial consistency or in any other area.
“That’s what we are here for. We want a major sport like rugby to be successful and to grow and therefore we are ready to help if they need help with how finances are handled, administration or other fields within the organisation.”
Patel said that sporting organisations have to operate as a business to be able to survive and be successful.
“In this day and age we have to move with the times in terms of financial literacy, how we handle teams and everything else that is needed to make a sporting organisation thrive and survive.”
Sanday added that there were some immediate plans already in place and these would be revealed soon.
The meeting today was held at the Fiji FA Headquarters in Suva.
