Fiji Electoral Commission Chair Mukesh Nand Resigns

Fiji’s Electoral Commission chair Mukesh Nand has resigned, acting supervisor of elections and acting secretary to the EC Ana Mataiciwa confirms.

Nand who oversaw the 2022 General Elections as EC Chair resigned yesterday, Thursday, June 22, about 16 months into his three-year term since signing on on February 24 last year.

President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere informed Mataiciwa about Nand’s resignation in a letter today.

Mataiciwa expressed her gratitude and appreciation, on behalf of the FEO (Fijian Elections Office) and the EC, for Nand’s service and dedication.

“[He] deserves our thanks and appreciation for the selfless service and sacrifice he has committed to the important role of Chairperson of the Electoral Commission this far. We wish him good health and every success in his future endeavors,” Mataiciwa said.

With Nand’s departure, there are now six vacant positions on the Electoral Commission. The appointments to these positions will be made by the President based on the recommendations of the Constitutional Offices Commission (COC).
