Fiji Elections 2022: SODELPA still to decide

SODELPA has not decided on the offers presented to them by either the FijiFirst or the coalition partners of People’s Alliance and National Federation Party, party leader Viliame Gavoka confirms.

Mr. Gavoka said the party’s 40-plus member management board will meet again Wednesday to peruse an update from its negotiation team, led by former MP Anare Jale, who has been sent back to the FijiFirst and PA/NFP parties to resolve aspects of their offerings.

SODELPA’s management board is expected to meet at 2 pm Wednesday to hear from their negotiation team, and possibly decide the direction they will go.

Mr Gavoka had told a media update yesterday that their policies on indigenous rights and education were non-negotiable.

The scenario follows the outcome of Fiji’s 2022 General Elections where neither of the parties won outright to form government, prompting a coalition government that hinges on SODELPA’s decision. FijiFirst won 26 seats, likewise the coalition partners of PA and NFP. SODELPA, with its three seats, hold the balance of power.
