Fiji Election: We will be impartial – MOG

November 10, 2022

Fiji’s Multinational Observer Group has stated it will act in an impartial, professional manner in compliance with the country’s law and international standards for election observation as they commence operations five weeks from the 2022 general election.

In a statement, the MOG says it will meet with government and election authorities, political parties, civil society organisations, as well as representatives of the international community in Fiji.

Headed by Coordinator Observer, Paul Wojciechowski, from Australia, the MOG which is co-chaired by Australia, India, and Indonesia, was present to observe the issuance of the electoral writ and will continue to observe ongoing preparations, including the establishment of the voter register, voter awareness and information efforts, the nomination of candidates, the electoral campaign, and monitor overall preparations for the election.

Closer to the election date, the MOG will deploy a range of observers who will witness voting, counting, and tabulation procedures. The MOG will also follow the post-electoral process, including the tabulation of results and resolution of any disputes.

Fiji 2022 election is scheduled for Wednesday 14 December 2022.
