Fiji Airports is ramping up its Nadi International Airport operations in anticipation of the re-opening of the country’s borders.
Chairman Geoffrey Shaw said the past 18 months’ challenges, driven by the global pandemic, have crippled both the aviation and tourism industries worldwide.
“Nadi International Airport operations continue to evolve as we look forward to the re-opening of our international borders and welcoming back our visitors for the first time since March 2020. Over this period, there has been a dedicated and focussed effort on achieving necessary operational readiness by all our Fiji Airports team members. We have and continue, to engage collaboratively with Ministry of Health and our partners being Fiji Airways, Tourism Fiji and our tourism stakeholders generally. We are prepared and look forward to safely welcoming our returning international visitors under what is now ‘the new normal’. Nadi International Airport is accredited by Airports Council International and has been awarded its Airport Health Accreditation. This milestone and internationally accepted accreditation, confirms Nadi International Airport as a safe and desirable travel destination,” Shaw said.
“The entire international terminal is continuously and rigorously disinfected and sanitised. Our facilities and passenger processes are aligned and adhere to COVID-19 safety protocols and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of travellers. We look forward with enthusiasm to the resumption of travel as we pride ourselves on delivering a safe and secure arrivals and departure experience. The health and safety of our passengers is our number one priority when international travel resumes.”
Fiji Airports Acting CEO, Isei Tudreu said as an airport it is encouraging to see airlines taking bookings for a Fiji holiday in December.
“We are proud to have a team that is fully vaccinated as we enter this significant phase in our airport recovery. The transition will be from handling cargo and repatriation flights for over a year, to safely handling passenger flights. Our team is on the ground planning and working to ensure the highest COVID-19 standards are maintained,” Tudreu said.
“Our airline partners Fiji Airways, Qantas and Virgin Australia have started taking passenger bookings for December. We are working with them to ensure a seamless and safe airport experience when borders re-open. An important function will be slot management to ensure each flight is safely processed. Fiji Airports is regularly meeting with our airport stakeholders to show the world that we are ready to welcome passengers back.”
Nadi International Airport will continue to maintain COVID-19 safety measures including mandatory wearing of face masks, physical distancing, among others.
