February 3, 2025

Fiji’s Electoral Commission today officially welcomed its newly appointed Chairperson Justice Usaia Ratuvili following his appointment on 30 January 2025.

Justice Ratuvili met with fellow Electoral Commission members, including Nalini Singh, Reginald Jokhan, Nemani Mati, and Ratu Inoke Dokonivalu.

The introductory meeting, facilitated by Supervisor of Elections Ana Mataiciwa, in her capacity as Commission secretary focused on the Commission’s strategic priorities and its role in upholding the country’s electoral integrity.

Justice Ratuvili who currently serves as a Puisne Judge of the High Court of Fiji, was also introduced to key personnel within the Fijian Elections Office, including Director of Operations Anaseini Senimoli and Director of Corporate Services Sanjeshwar Ram.

“The Electoral Commission is looking forward to working under Justice Ratuvili’s leadership. We are committed to further strengthening electoral processes, improving stakeholder engagement, and enhancing public confidence in Fiji’s democratic system,” a Commission statement read.

Justice Ratuvili takes up the post, which has been vacant since September of last year, after Barbara Malimali was appointed to head Fiji’s anti-corruption body, FICAC.
