Dr Hawea and Camilo charged, to appear in court

Fiji Police have charged We United Fiji Party members Dr. Jone Hawea and Abel Camilo with one count each of malicious act.

They are due to appear before a magistrates court in Suva today.

Authorities questioned them Friday for allegedly calling for a mass gathering to protest the 2022 General Elections process at the Vodafone Arena.

Dr. Hawea, police said went live on Facebook Friday evening calling on people to gather at the arena, where the counting of ballots took place, to protest the counting process. Camillo is also believed to have made similar calls.

We Unite Fiji party finished seventh of the nine political parties that contested the 2022 General Election with Dr Hawea amassing the most votes with 1618 whilst Camillo picked up 90.
