June 11, 2025

The deferred Easter Cricket competition is underway in Suva and competition is tough amongst teams that are vying for the top honors including champions Kabara from Lau.

Competition executive Joeli Mateyawa said the games which ends on Saturday have continued to show excellent skills and team spirit spurred on by the incredible support from spectators.

“We are very happy with how the games have turned out from when we started and everything is on par.”

Mateyawa said newcomers Fulaga have also been putting on a good show.

“Fulaga has joined us this year and they have been playing quite well. All the associations affiliated with Cricket Fiji are playing here. We have Suva, Ono, Kabara, Komo, Namuka, Moce, Nadi and other teams that provide good competition for one another.”

Mateyawa also said that the development of the sport in Fiji is continuing with the primary school competition already proving to be a success across the country.

“We are happy but we also realise that we have to continue with the work on the ground especially in the primary school and high school level. This is a good sport and it’s important for us to continue to spread awareness of it at all levels of community.”

The competition is currently underway at Albert Park in Suva.
