Fijian health authorities lifted the lockdown on Namara Tiri area in Labasa this morning, and moved curfew hours for Labasa back to 11pm-4am, after tests of primary and secondary contacts returned negative results
Swabbing of residents in the containment area and immediate surroundings returned negative outcomes as well and vaccination coverage has picked up.
“After day one, four and 12 testings for the primary contacts, and the 181 secondary contacts were all negative for COVID-19. A total of 692 surveillance swabbing was conducted both inside and outside the containment area which also returned negative test results. The three remaining active cases are stable. Vaccination coverage in the Namara Tiri containment area was 98%, and residents have been reminded to get their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccination when due, eight weeks after the first dose,” Permanent Secretary for Health Dr James Fong said.
He also expressed gratitude to the residents of Namara Tiri and the people of Labasa for their cooperation, reminding them as well as to continue to adhere to COVID-safe protocols.
Of the 18 public health infringements issued by Fiji Police for breach of social gathering protocols between 9 and 10 September, eight were recorded in the North. Between 6 and 8 September, eight infringement notices were issued in the North, all for breach of the 2-metre distancing protocol.
