Court Orders Ravu and Toaisi to Settle Fees

Fiji’s Minister for Fisheries and Forests, Kalaveti Ravu, and former Regional Manager North, Tekata Toaisi, appeared today in a magistrates court in Suva as their case continued with the second phase of disclosures.

The court presided over by Resident Magistrate Talei Kean, has ordered both defendants to settle outstanding legal fees with their current attorneys before further proceedings can continue.

Ravu and Toaisi were instructed to resolve these financial matters before the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) released the second phase of disclosures.

The charges against Ravu and Toaisi involve allegations of interference in a Ministry of Fisheries and Forests investigation into the illegal Beche-de-mer trade between 25 July and 31 August 2023. Ravu faces charges of Abuse of Office, while Toaisi is charged with Aiding and Abetting Abuse of Office.

The case has been adjourned to 12 August for mention.
