Three juveniles and six police officers will appear in two separate court seatings today over a spate of aggravated robberies in Nadi and allegations of planting drugs in a vehicle in Suva respectively.
Aged between 13 and 15 years, the juveniles who allegedly robbed a number of retail and wholesale outlets within the Nadi-Namaka area this month and also face charges of failing to comply with curfew will appear before a magistrates court in Nadi.
In Suva, six police officers will appear before a magistrates court for allegedly planting a small bag of methamphetamine in the back of a 23-year-old man’s car in May last year.
“The 15-year old has been charged with five counts of failure to comply with orders for breaching curfew restrictions, six counts of aggravated burglary and six counts of theft. One of the 13-year-old accused faces two counts of failure to comply with orders, three counts of aggravated burglary and three counts of theft. The third accused also aged 13-years has been charged with three counts of failure to comply with orders, three counts of aggravated burglary and 3 counts of theft,” police said.
“All six [police officers] have been charged with one count of conspiracy to defeat justice. Two of the six officers face additional charges of abuse of office. A report was lodged by the victim of the group’s alleged illegal activities whereby investigations were conducted by the Criminal Investigations Department and charges sanctioned by the Director of Public Prosecutions.”
