July 2, 2025

A newly appointed Education Commission, chaired by former University of the South Pacific lecturer Professor Vijay Naidu, will lead a comprehensive review of the Fiji’s education system.

The Commission’s mandate includes examining curriculum content, teacher quality, school leadership, and broader institutional frameworks.

Announcing the appointments in Suva, Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro said the review was a testament to the Coalition Government’s commitment to better the delivery and composition of the education system in Fiji.

“This is not just an administrative formality. It is a national moment. The work of this Commission will help guide our education system through an era of transformation, one shaped by rapid technological change, shifting labour markets, and the increasing importance of lifelong and inclusive learning.”

Radrodro said that guided by key objectives, the Commission was keen for the task ahead of them.

The Commission has been established with five key objectives:

  1. To conduct a comprehensive review of the education system, including curriculum, teacher quality, school leadership, and institutional frameworks.
  2. To strengthen national unity and identity, by promoting diversity, respect, and belonging.
  3. To align education with economic development and future labour market demands.
  4. To make education more inclusive and accessible to all Fijians.
  5. To position Fiji globally as a centre of learning, innovation and excellence.”

Radrodro encouraged people to seek to meet with the Commission.

“This will be a consultative, evidence-based, and forward-looking process, ensuring the voices of students, educators, parents, employers, and communities are all heard.”

The Commissioners appointed to undertake the Review are: Mr. Filipe Jitoko, Ms. Kelera Taloga, Dr. Lavenia Tiko, Professor Vijay Naidu, Dr. Priscilla Puamau, Dr. Kesaia Seniloli, Mr. Arvind Maharaj and Mrs. Ana Raivoce.
