Boxers suspended; Narayan labels fight a disgrace

Fiji Boxing Commission Chairman Adi Narayan has labelled the boxing saga in Sigatoka, last weekend a disgrace.

And in doing, the Commission has suspended the two boxers James Singh and Semi Dauloloma for four months.

“What happened in Sigatoka at that fight was a disgrace to Fiji boxing. It should have been better handled.”

Narayan said upon checking to see that all requirements had been fulfilled, the match promoter assured him that everything was in place and ready.

“He (Bluewater Boxing Promotions) assured me when I met with him that everything was in place, the security included however it was unfortunate that chaos broke out things turned out the way it did at that fight.”

“The two boxers are now suspended and in the new year we will review it so they can have a fresh start.”

Narayan said the FBC was working to improve and promote the sport in Fiji.

“The sport is growing, we just need to work together to ensure that it is properly managed, with more awareness to be done around the country.”
