For Josephine Pau’u having to be told that her newborn baby was very sick and needed surgery tore at her heart and caused her panic.
A first-time mother, Josephine said she was confused and scared that she would lose her baby girl.
“I didn’t know what to do. It seemed unreal and scary and my mind was running everywhere.”
Josephine and her baby were later transferred to the Sri Sathya Sai Prema Hospital where baby Tarusila was treated and under the skillful hands of visiting surgeons was able to undergo the surgery successfully this week.
“I am so grateful for this hospital. They have come through for my little princess and many other babies and children who have heart defects and need urgent surgical attention,” she said.
The hospital has been at the forefront of helping hundreds of families and children in Fiji and also in the Pacific with surgeries, screenings, and hospital care.
“As of date, 287 free heart surgeries have been performed at the Sai Sanjeevani Childrens Hospital, and over 16,500 heart screenings conducted at the hospital. Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Hospital Fiji is deeply grateful to the entire international visiting surgical team from Australia and PNG for volunteering their time and services in saving little hearts in Fiji and the South Pacific Islands.”
